i dunno really, i've never thought about it, they say that most produce in spanish supermarkets are actually organic (the ones we go to) so i suppose we do eat organic foods, i do think however that in england most organisc produce is too expensive, and in some cases for parts of the population inaffordable!

My family never have, and probably never will, get organic food. Costs way too much, and makes little difference.

We did used to grow own potatoes, so I guess they were organic.

It's only organic if there has been no use of pesticides or genetic involvement, and that includes pesticides in the soil etc..

Organic foods are labelled as such. Yes it's expensive i agree but the more people buy it, the more the prices are reduced.
It's a scam. As Thud mentions, growing your own is a perfectly good way of "going organic", and the world would be a better place if more people did that anyway.

But the organic movement is nothing but a cynical ploy to cache in on the latent fear in the human subconscious of tomatoes that bite back.

Only if your soil was organic would they have been and only if the original planted potato was organic too.

We cannot say that it makes little difference, the chemicals in all of our food to preserve them is horrific, and we do not know their long term effects. All food used to be organic until mass production of cheap 'food' came into effect some 20 odd years ago.

I'm talking about the chemicals in the pesticides and the hormones they inject to make them bigger etc. They inject cows with hormones to keep them producing milk all year round - that's not normal.

They tamper with fruit to make even strawberries grow in winter - that's not normal. Going organic is about organic soil and organic seeds planted.
They used to use salt to preserve quite a lot of food. The amount of salt in the average diet today is very high, so just imagine what the levels must have been back then before the evil chemicals came in!

Vaccinations are not normal either. While there obviously need to be careful checks on what goes on, it is simply impossible for this "return to the trees" thinking to work. Human civilisation is built on things that are "not normal".

:ditto: the whole organic thing is just hype. it doesnt taste any better and it isnt healthier. there is no evidence that gm foods are bad for you in any way and if there was they would be banned. anyone who has done gsce biology shouls realise that there is no scientific reason that gm foods should be treated with such fear.

growing fields full of crops isnt normal. we should go back to our hunter gatherer days. crops increase the number of pests who feed on those crops and that affects the rest of the food wed. its obviously bad for the environment and should be banned.

They would not be banned, there are studies underway at the moment to show the long term effects of such chemicals.

Vaccinations are a weak version of a disease meant to build up immunity. Gm food is a cheap alternative with little natural substance. big difference
@fnord: They do taste better, if you know they're GM when you're eating them. It's similar to the placebo effect.

It's more normal and health than consuming a chemical that kills insects, what is it doing to us? Some of these rops have inbuilt pesticides, and ignorance of this is shocking. It's not healthy to eat chemicals, simple.

gm food is identical to ordinary food except that its impervious to certain deseises and pests. this means less chemicals and less harm to the environment. they tatse the same and have the same nutritional value.

look we have been genetically modifying things for years. selectively breeding crops and animals. most of what they are doing is no different.

Chemical modifications though? This is the point
