I'm doing it! I know i'm going to fail so not going to bother to do any prep. Have got 2 chem exams on monday so should still all be in my head from then *lives in hope*
If you want to have a look at past papers i think they're on the aqa website, but don't hold me to it.

Yeah, I'm doing it too...There are four (I think) past papers on the AQA website. I've got my U6 Chem (Nuffield) exam on Monday morning, so I think I'll do some AEA papers after that.
How many of the people doing an AEA in chemistry are applying to Oxford for chemistry? Just curious...
:wavey: I'm doing the AEA, but doing very little preparation... I've just revised all the Chemistry syllabus so I'm telling myself there's not much more I can do. Sooner or later I'll sit down and have a look at one or two past papers, but I'm really just doing it cos there's nothing to lose...

I'd have thought it will be mostly upper sixth students taking the AE, who would have probably already applied. I was meant to be taking it, and I have an offer, however I was withdrawn so that I could focus on the Olympiad, not that that has really happened!

i am too doing it on wednesday, even though it has no relevance to my uni application whatsoever (doing law!) - i suppose i just thought it might be fun...

www.chemguide.co.uk is a good website for useful bits of information.

Oh wow Im surrounded by people in the same position!! Isnt this wonderful!!

Good luck everyone thats doing the two exams on Monday... I dont know why I said that, "luck" is imaginary and should only be reserved for hopefuls... :p:

Anyway, Im also doing the AEA paper in Chemistry and my teacher (bless her) has made me do 3 practice exams. The papers are tough, and I personally think that she is deluded when she says Ill pass...

Nevermind... The worst of it all is that its three hours!! I know I will end up adopting an "I dont care" attitude after the first hour

I'm doing it, and have an offer for NatSci at Cam... if that is at all useful!
im taking it, and have a conditional offer for Natsci at Cambridge. Though my general A-level teaching has been really poor this year (teacher has just been sacked!), so im not all too confident about passing!! plus the A level syllabus i do has almost no inorganic chemistry in it, which makes some of the questions nigh impossible!

just as well, because my conditional originally required me to get a distinction...im soooo glad they changed it!!

I'm sorry to hear about that! - and I thought i had bad teaching!

What syllabus did you do?
And how did you get them to change your offer!?
Did OCR Salters - theres lots of organic on there, which is good, but not a huge amount of other stuff
- the essays always say "use examples from organic and inorganic chemistry", and ive never heard of the inorganic stuff in the markscheme! oh well, hopefully I'll figure it out though.

I got my original offer around new years (and was a bit freaked out!) - and then they just rang me up about a week later and said that "due to an administrative oversight" they were cancelling the AEA condition of the offer. Phew!!

Yeh, sucks about my teacher - he was a nice chap, he just joked around way too much and never really taught...and when he did, he often taught us lies! I lost count of the number of times he told me I was wrong, and then after 20mins of debate decided I'd been right all along!

Good luck to everyone taking the aea - if you're anything like me you'll be needing it!

Hey, how did everyone find it? My opinion was that it was much easier than past year papers? what about you guys?
Reply 13
I thought it was fine, although I only left 10 mins for the last question :p:

Some of the questions I didnt really understand, but I think all the calcualtions were pretty straight forward...

Yeah, same here - it was definitely easier than the past papers - not too bad at all, really.
well, depends what kinda questions you like! I love organic and cant do physical - so was pretty pants for me!
