Postgrad degree at HKU ,HKUST or UBC?

Hi everyone , I am currently on the UOL external programme (BSc.Economics) and is thinking of further studies in MSc.Economics and/or Finance. I would like to hear some opinion of HKU and HKUST .
Just a couple months ago I striked a conversation with several of my friends, on hearing that I plan to further study in HK, they gave me the irked look and commented that Asia degrees are sub-standard and that my future asian employers(most likely) tend to be biased against asia degrees, so much so that I would most prob have a much better career prospect if I landed in Western unis and blah blah ...
The west unis that I could prob afford and is looking at UBC MA Economics, and QMUL Financial Economics.
What are your views of further education in ASIA , in particular HK ? :confused:

HK has very decent unis, HKU was very well considered a few years back and is still well looked upon. Undergrad is fine, but because of the bias and uneducated stance of so many in Asia, you're better of with a Western country Uni degree :/.

I am in Hong Kong, and moving to UK for university because of this!

HK Universities have asian focus, so you can catch up with the rapid economic development in asia with a HKU degree.

A degree from Asia can tell more about yourself.

Concerning academic standard, HKU is as good as UBC.

First-hand experience may also be important, so studying in Asia can be beneficial. Also, studying in Asia is definitely cheaper.

Hi all,
Many thanks for all your reply. Yes as Yeung has put it, it is much cheaper to attain a qualification in Asia compared to the West. Cost is a major concern for me.As such I will be looking more at Reputable Unis in Asia such as HKU, HKUST , National U of Singapore, or National Tech U (Spore). Guess I have to forgo Western unis . :redface:

The most prestigious faculties of HKU are law and medicine.

They are generally reagarded as one of the top faculties in the world.

HKU and HKUST both outshine UBC. Canadian universities aren't very well regarded.

You hit the nail on the head. Indeed, HKUST's business school is ranked 1st in the Asia-pacific region, and something like 17th in the world.

HKU!!!! HKUST is so so but up to u..apply to both and see where u get in? look at what ull be taught like subject modules in HKU and HKUST's site? i have a lot of friends from hongkong i used to go to school with and they rate HKU better than HKUST.
