Loughborough Motor Club! - Like Cars and Bikes?

Hello!

As member of the Motor Club I would just like to make a short post inviting any forum members who might be interested to get involved.
The club is one of the oldest running and offers excellent facilities to anyone interested in Cars, Bikes and all related things.

The club has a well stocked garage on campus, with all the basic tools you need to work on a car or bike, as well as some of the larger equipment you wouldnt otherwise have access to as a student or otherwise, such as a large trolley jack, a mig welder, bike and engine stands, and a hydraulic press, as well as a safe and secure space to work on you car on campus.

We meet at the garage every Wednesday afternoon, and on a Thursday at the Moon & Bell pub in town. This week the meetings are a great open everyone and are a great way to get to know more about the club if you have just joined or are looking to join.

We also run a number 'ride out' sessions for bikers, socials to local car/motor shows, local motorsport events and trackdays, as well as an opportunity to support you getting involved in anything else you might be interested in trying,

What do I love?
1. Messing about with cars, bikes, engine and chatting to like mind people.
2. The opportunity to get involved and get lifts to events around the country.
3. Access club equipment to fix things and put ideas into practice.
4. Fantastic value for money for a great year ahead!

The website is currently being rebuilt for the new year, however you can get in touch with the club by emailing [email protected] and you can find out more about the club and sign up at http://www.lsu.co.uk/society/motor

Get in touch with any questions if you like, otherwise, head down to the garage on Wednesday and get involved.

The garage is located in the middle of campus, just below the student village and the all weather pitches by the Mumford Arts building. Link to Campus map

Wow, I've never been to that part of campus before although I've always seen that road.

I thought you'd graduated?

I could do with getting to my windscreen washer pump in my Renault Scenic Mk1 and taking it all out to flush out the system as there seems to be a blockage. I've got limited knowledge on cars but would like to fix it myself if I can rather than paying someone.

What time do you meet up on a Wednesday afternoon?

Yes, I graduated three years ago, but continue to keep in touch with the motor club.

As often as anything its the jets the block up, assuming you can here the pump running and have had a go at unblocking them with a pin or bit of wire, the first thing I would do is pull the pipe of the back of the jet (usually a simple job if there mounted to the bonnet) and run the pump. A lot of cars also use a single pump, run one way or the other, for front and rear. So if the car has rear washers and they work that could be another diagnostic step.
In terms of getting to the pump, normally the washer bottles of new cars are buried deep somewhere in one of the wings or inside the corners of the front bumper, but if the above doesnt work, as well as heading down to the garage, I would jump on google and have a search on owners forums and the like.

The exact times of the Wednesday meets can vary depending whos around, but assuming your not going far to get there, if you head down there should be someone around most of the afternoon. Else ask on the facebook page the day or so before.

Yes, can hear the pump running and have unblocked the jets with a pin. Have also now taken off the pipe to see if any fluid would come out with your advice. This was good as I spotted a cut in the pipe. Luckily it was close to the next 'junction' so I could just cut it off and join it back on, if that makes sense.

However, the stream of fluid is very low, if anything. So therefore there must still be a blockage in the pump/washer bottle. I've also checked the rear jets which has the same issue of no fluid flowing (no cut there). I've checked online and it's most likely under the right hand front mudguard. Need to do a full steering lock to the left and then work from there.

This seems like a bigger job so may need to come in at some point when I have time. Thanks for your help so far.

Sounds all about right to me. Failing that the pumps dying...

Only other thing I might do now, if getting to it appear to be a big job (often is, as said) is find the nearest point you can get to the pipe coming out, cut it, and see what the flows like there in case there is a blockage/kink somewhere in the line. But obviously then you have to re-join it. You also have to be pretty ruddy sure its the screen wash pipe before you cut it!

Joined the club yet?

If you need to raise the car to get to it, they have several trolley jacks, and a large collection of axle stands, crawler board, etc.

Hey Daniel,

Thanks for the tips. I think the pump is fine but there is a blockage somewhere, most likely in the tank. For now I've left it as I barely use the car, currently just starting it up on weekends to go shopping as otherwise the battery is going flat.

I haven't joined the club yet, just not getting around to doing anything with the car, always using my bike as it's so much easier.

Maybe I'll do something this Christmas, if it hasn't started snowing...

Hello, I'm currently about to enter Loughborough Uni and I'm wondering if you have knowledge of a motorcycle club that stemmed from this club?

Hi @Kiezeph

Great to hear you are coming to Loughborough 🙂

Take a look at a list of societies on our Student Union website. It looks like we have 'Motor Club' and 'Motor Sport' which may interest you.

If you have any other questions about Loughborough please do ask 🙂

Alex
