Are people spending a lot of time revising for this? The people doing it at my college just try it without wasting their time revising for it.

You can review what you covered at AS and what you've done at A2, however for me, a lot of the stuff on the exam was stuff that we hadn't even covered so the majority was guesswork! It really is up to you if you want to go to the next round etc etc!

I do it on Friday but I looked at a past paper and a lot of it seems to be fairly random stuff so I'm not bothering to revise  I'd rather focus on revising for my biology exam so I do as well as last year
How do you think it went?

Yeah, same  The syllabus had some stuff I never need to know and I haven't applied for biology or a science related subject anyway so the olympiad means nothing to me

It was alright, but I'm sure you'll be find  lots of educated guesses haha!

Hey guys, do any of you have any tips on how to answer difficult questions, because I know that there will be some that I won't even understand the options to....? :frown:
If you are really stuck, try and break down words or find clue in words. Example, The function of cell compartment Peroxisome. Clue is Perox, similar to Peroxide, so function is specialised metabolic compartment that contains enzymes that transfer hydrogen atoms to oxygen, producing Hydrogen peroxide as by product.
That is what I'm going to do if I get stuck, just break down the words of the question or answers.

I guess revising for this is the same as revising for A2, as they ask a mix of as and A2

It took me about 1 hour and 10 minutes to complete but I couldn't be bothered looking over it all again so I stopped at that.
Do you think there are questions that are designed so we're meant to use initiative to work it out, or are we actually expected to know it? I don't want to say any of the answers in case the admins start crying about it and I get penalised.

I did it today, does anyone have any idea as to when we'll hear back? And also, what mark was required to proceed to the second round for the preceding years?

I did the 2010 paper and I felt like crying, got 38 this one was much better. Thinking the mark to proceed to the next round'll increase? Anyone else...?

Ehh kinda a bit of both. I sat it recently, it was pretty damn hard. With quite a broad knowledge of Biology, you'll be able to quite confidently tell a lot of answers that are not right, so through a process of elimination you can pick the most likely answer.

Thanks peeps. Any ideas as to when round 1 results'll be out? My teacher said he'd tell me his findings tomorrow morning and I'll share those if are of any use.
