The median is (n+1)/2 = 46/2 = 23rd data in the data

looking at the cumulative frequency, this lies at 6km.

you must add 1 to the number of items then divide by 2 to find the median position then see what value lies there.
4. What Lunchbox and the bear said is correct. The 23rd position is calculated using the (n+1)/2 formula. Since 23 corresponds to the cumulative frequency of distance 6km, 6km is the median distance whilst 23rd is the median position.
