Oxygen has 6 atoms in the outer shell

Sodium has 1 atom in the outer shell

so two sodiums donate their outer electron to the oxygen

    This is ionic bonding

    2[Na]+ [O]2-

    Hope that helped !!!

Oxygen has 6 atoms in the outer shell
    Electrons.

Sodium has 1 atom in the outer shell
    Electrons.

Despite this mistake, your thinking is correct.
