My 18th birthday gift- what to ask for?

Hello. I'm looking for ideas for my present; I don't know what to get (and I don't want a suprise!).

I like bags, clothes, but not jewellery as I don't really wear it that much. It has to be a pretty special thing due to the occasion. In terms of budget, not over 500 pounds, and preferably a bit below that amount.

I would really appreciate your ideas, or posts about things you received for your 18ths.

Ooh it's my 18th in a fortnight so I'm looking for ideas too!

I asked for a charm bracelet for my birthday, I know you said no jewelry but my bracelet isn't designed to be worn every day. It has no charms on it yet but I've bought charms which mean something special to me and have a personal relevance, they will be welded on when I have enough money.
i know you said you don't wear jewellery but what about a nice designer watch!

Yeah, I think that's a great idea (if you wear watches, or wouldn't mind starting) - for me, watches are great investments coz you wear them everyday and by their nature they're special.

*edit* Alternatively, a designer handbag? One in black or white maybe, that you could get a lot of use out of.
before you're given something you dont want, you could always say you want a shopping day or a vouchor from your fave shop.that way-no surprises

:dito: i was thinking the same. I wish i had that amount of money, let alone to spend on a 'good value' item

OUCH! You and I obviously have very different ideas of what good value is. Do people actually pay those prices?

I think they're quite good prices for what they are. Look at it this way; you will always need some good shoes, a decent bag and a black dress. Personally I'd prefer to spend a couple of hundred pounds on a high quality, well cut dress I'll be able to wear for years than one that doesn't fit as nice and won't last as long that cost £40 from Topshop or New Look or something.

The bags are overpriced, I agree. But the dresses and shoes are well priced I think. I'd pay that much for them (if I had it!).
Once again sorry, it's another piece of jewellery, but my parents got me a Tiffany's necklace with an engraved message on the back. I love it, easily goes with anything and everyone always compliments it

Here's the link, but if that doesn't work i've attached a picture of the necklace:

Or, rather than a present - why don't you go somewhere if possible? My friend for her 18th had a nice pampering weekend at a spa with her mum and sister and then went to nice posh restaurant with the whole family - i think they also got her a nice bracelet as 'the present' but she loved just doing something different!

Ask for the money and go shopping!! If I had £500 I wouldn't spend it on one or two things, I'd go to high street shops and buy loooooooooads

I got a lovely DKNY watch from my grandparents and my parents got me a necklace and earrings with tiny diamonds in them.

watches are good, but if you don't think you'll wear it get something you will use.

its my 19th next week and i still haven't decided on an 18th present lol my parents originally got me this pearl bracelet from tiffanys, but they didn't like it or something, so sent it back. it was the bracelet i really wanted, and they wont let me have it! lol i'd go for a nice piece of jewellery, your 18th is just one of those things you want to remember. a charm bracelet is always a nice idea. im still at a complete loss though. i got £150 of my nan too, thats still sitting in my bank waiting to be spent on something!
I know you said no jewellry, but I think jewellery is a good choice for a special birthday, like an 18th because you can always keep it. For my 18th I got a gorgeous gold bracelet and for my 21st a Dolce and Gabbana watch.
Another jewellry I'm afraid. I got a diamond pendant off my parents and a locket off my best friends. They arn't things you wear every day but they can be kept and you can wear them for years.
