What's the difference between Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences?

    Nothing.
There is a bit of a problem with the UCAS system of naming courses. The UCAS system is very limited, and is designed to make broad comparisons between different universities possible, but makes fine distinctions between two courses within a university almost impossible. In the September 2003 prospectus, we distinguished between the 3/4 year BSc/MSci course and the 3 year BSc course by calling the first "Mathematical Sciences (G103)" and the second "Mathematics (G100)". Unfortunately, this distinction was not applied consistently, and UCAS knows both G100 and G103 by the same title "Mathematical Sciences". But the G100 "Mathematical Sciences" at UCAS is the same as the G100 course described in the prospectus. There is no real difference in subject matter between G100 and G103 (except that G103 takes it a bit further). Other universities may use the UCAS codes or programme titles in a slightly different way.
For the differences between G103 and G100, see the next few questions.
