On idle my CPU is around 37-40c, then on gaming it can reach 80-85c.

I have a AM3+ FX8350 CPU. I recently bought a new CPU fan but It didn't seem to improve upon my stock fan. So is 85c okay for a CPU fan to reach?

The idle/ambient temperature seems fine. It's not what I'd consider 'cool' but certainly safe.

80-85C on the other hand is too hot. Anything over 65-70 is getting far from ideal and will cause your hardware to deteriorate more quickly.

What are your fan speeds like?
Have you fitted a new heatsink or anything recently?

I did just install a new CPU fan, but I was being a dumbass and reading the GPU reading which was at 80/85, which is perfectly fine for nvidia cards.

I'll test it again, remembering to read my CPU temp when on full load. Will update later.

    Haha excellent!

If that's your GPU temperature, then I'd say it's fine

50 max on the CPU, as low as 45 at times. All good then! Cheers mate.

Edit: Low as 23 on idle!

    I'm back..

I bought the GTX780 and have been experiencing a few issues. First card came and it was faulty, RBG colours all across the screen, it was unusable. Then I got it replaced, this one wasn't faulty (or I don't think so). When I game, there are white horizontal flickering, it is bearable, but is a little annoying. This has been tested for Far Cry 3, and Metro Last Light. However, older games like Max Payne 1, and even GTA 4, it doesn't happen in and looks fine. So seems like it only happens for newish games, I'll be testing it on Max Payne 3 and see the results.

I've updated drivers, turned off V-Sync at the Nvidia control panel. My monitor is LCD so I cannot go above 60hz refresh rate. Windows all updated... I am using a FX 8350 (4.0GHZ) with a Asus M5A97 R2.0 Motherboard.

My monitor is VGA and connects via a HDMI connector on my card. If anyone has any suggestions, please fire away!
