Having a mum that's older than your dad

Does anyone else on here have a mother who's older than their dad? :redface:

I feel like I'm the only one :frown:

Divorced now, but when they were going out/married, yes there was a 5 year difference.

You might find its actually quite common, its normal these days, nothing wrong with it and alot of couples are same

My dad is three years older than my mum, but I think my grandma is several years older than my grandad, and it's certainly more common now than it was back then.

Why would that be a problem? My mother is 5 years older than my father and they are now divorced. Big deal.

i think for some people it might have been weird because in the times of patriarchal families the father would almost always have been older because he had to be dominant in all ways. but i find it strange that you are bothered about it in this day and age...

Ok of course the social norm is for the dad to be a few years older than the mum, but I don't see anything wrong or abnormal per se for your mum to be slightly older, especially if they're still a loving couple who can cast aside any perceptions of dominance simply because one is older than the other. It may be odd if the age gap is too large, but if it's such that when looking at them, their age difference is indistinguishable, then you've got nothing at all to be sullen about.

My Mum's 4 years older than my dad and they're still together, but before that she was married to someone 16 years her senior. I hardly think it's the hugest of worries.

Mum's one year older. She said it sucks, cuz it means she always needs to take care of him. I find it normal. I hate girls who are younger and always just need protection anyway.

My mum's 7 years older than my dad. It's never been an issue... I find it hard to believe that you seem worried about it?!

Really don't think its a problem- my Dad is only 2 days older than my Mum- they do NOT get on at all! My grandparents have 11 years between them + are a lovely lovely couple. The closest, sweetest family I know have 2 kids and the Mum is older than the Dad by at least 5 years- they get on like a house on fire. Think once you're past the weird teenage gaps (13 year old with a 20 year old, maybe not great) age doesn't matter.
