Broken toe for longer than 10 weeks

Hi guys
Don;t know if you remember I previously posted a thread about me breaking my metatarsal. Well it still hurt after about 10 weeks and so I went to A&E again. The X-ray showed that the bone still had not healed and to come back in 4 weeks to get it checked out. He said that if it still is not healed, I might have to have an operation to remove the chipped piece of bone!
Has anyone ever had this done before? Isn;t there another option before an operation? I've heard of a specially fitted shoe or something...
Oh well, will have to hope that my foot has healed by then.
Sounds nasty, I don't think you really want a chipped piece of bone floating around your foot to be honest. I know someone who's having a similar operation on their elbow - they barely go near a knife, it's all done with lasers and crap.

I don;t know, the person said that there was a piece of bone which had broke or something when it got fractured and as yet, it hasn;t completely come together again (from the x-ray). I am really hoping that my foot is healed before the 4 weeks. I don;t want to be out for a few months after a surgery. Seems I must be a slow healer or something!
How can an operation not involve a knife?
Well, it does involve a knife. What I mean is they don't hack away at huge flaps of skin and start sawing your bone off. I think they put small optic fibres inside you (which is where the knife comes into it) then apparently they use lasers, somehow. Meh, I'm no doctor. Besides, the skin around your little toe is tight compared to your elbow, so maybe not. Was just something I heard.
