Nail Biters!?

 I'm trying SO hard to give up, I paint them with the stop-biting stuff twice a day but it's just so hard.... I did stopped before then when I started playing guitar again I started.

I was sat in my exam today doing my head in trying to think about writing AND not biting my nails.

Anyone else bite? Given up? started again? Help! Tips! Advice! I'm going mental mental chicken oriental here.

I used to bite my nails but it hurt my teeth like **** so I stopped willingly. Still bite the skin around my nails occasionally.

Sellotape your fingers up.

The worst thing is I have quite large hands anyway, and with short nail they seem really masculine!

I need to get another bad habit, any ideas?

I still bite my nails. It's been my New Year's Resolution for several years  But I am getting better, now I only bite them when they're 4mm or longer!

nose picking?

in psychology at A Level..we were told that the habit comes from children not being "orally stimulated" when they are young, ie given dummies/chewing rings to chew on (as children need to explore things with their mouths at that age)

im a bad nailbiter, and just cant stop! but to be honest it isnt that much of a problem for me, i never bite so far it becomes painful or anything.

nose picking?

 That was freakishly timed!

Not something I like to do in public however, as it raises the questions

"To pick: To lick? To roll? To flick?"

ive bitten mine since i was a wee nipper, but my teeth are mashed up and sooooo sensitive, so a couple of days ago i stopped and theyre already looking better! i still bite the skin too though, but you gotta have some pleasures in life

I'm usually in pain from one or other of them - now, for instance *winces* was chewing my thumbnail when I happened across this thread.

I stopped for about a month, then I forgot and started again automatically :frown: it's ridiculous. Any success stories?

my nails are awful. My whole family moans at me to stop, but i just cant :frown: i've tried so many times and i think i've tried every possible way to stop, i bit the anti-nail biting polish off, i've worn flase nails, and although that works and alows them to grow, when i take them off i bite them again. I've bitten my nails ever since i was a child, and to be honest sometimes i dont even know i'm doing it....

i stopped biting my nails, but i don't really know how i did it. My friend stopped biting by leaving two nails to chew on so the others were left to grow, when she saw they looked nice she weened herself off the other nails.. it works when you see how attractive they look

During a discusion of Freudian themes my teacher kept picking on me cause of my nail-biting and the fact I put lip-gloss on every ten mins or so! Apparently I'm in the 'oral stage'!

I was always given pacifiers as a baby although I never have sucked my thumb.

ah, yes, it was during the Freud study!

god bless Freud, he livened up that Psych course no end:p:

I always had a dummy/pacifier at a young age, so thats probably where mine stems from.

I didn't do psychology, (Mainly because I can't spell it!) I did it in English Literature as a way to analyse texts.

I've always bitten my nails. A couple of months ago, my ex said "stop biting your nails, or you're not having any sex". And it worked. I stopped instantly. But then i put fake nails on and since i took them off i've been biting again. i stopped the other day, but had to bite them in my examt his afternoon!

DONT DO IT, there's dirt under your nails from hell knows where and if your going to insert them into your mouth there's a good chance you can become infected or sick
