i find my trips to the doctors a waste of time, i always get fobbed off. All the other doctors in the area have their books full and have done for some while. So i cant even switch.

Doctor - Hi
Me - Hiya, I just need to get another prescription to get some more ventolin inhalers
Doctor - Sure, It's been nearly a year since your last prescription, I see you're handling your asthma quite well
Me - Yeah, I hardly ever get affected by it anymore.
Doctor - good, here you go
Me - thanks

:blushing: I think I actually just died with embarassment.

well i don't really like my doctor, so that makes it worse - he always tries to convince me that it's my fault, and normally says something along the lines of, "you're looking fat!"

I hardly ever go and if I do it's generally just for a repeat prescription of my pill. I go in there, ask for a repeat prescription, she takes my blood pressure and prints one out. Hardly a nightmare :p:
I actually really enjoy going to the doctors as there's always an opportunity for me to learn something (I start med school in september) */geek* However, I know it's easier said than done but you should try and be less anxious about it - they'll honestly have seen and heard it all, and much worse!
you can always switch doctors if you're unhappy...

Im having a battle with them at the moment over hayfever. Im going to try and ask for the antihistamine injection, dunno if ill be sucessful. But i know my pills aint working no more, and this is the strongest pills he can put me on.

have you tried getting a new gp lately, the only ones on offer are at universities. And my university is 20miles away, seems alot of effort to go and get a repeat prescription.

I know the whole "down there" thing is like embarrasing at the doctors and everything, but I think if you've done it once you've got the courage you need for loadsa things. That's why whenever I will have to whip it out for them I'll be all like *embarrasing!* but also once it's done I'll be like "oh yea:biggrin:!". Dunno why. Ignore me. I'm weird.
I would never go to my doctor with an embaressing problem since he's known me before I was born, yes he saw me as an embryo and he's watched me grow up, therefore, although he will only see me as a body and parts I'd never want to go see him where it could involve any showing or description of rude bits! ha. I don;t know if I would feel differently if it was another doctor. Guess I will just have o see for if and when I get a shameful problem!

Actually I kow what you mean, I feel a bit embarrassed because whenever I go to my doctors (which is rarely) they seem to just dismiss me and make me feel like I'm waisting there time.

In fact, I went there today to sort out a blood test form and the nurse almost attacked me for wanting a blood test.
I just kept changing until i found one i liked. I'm picky. :p: My first doctor was male and too old. I wanted a female. My second had a funny squint in her eye - not her fault but thats all i could look at, seriously put me off! My third was just cold to me. Fourth was amazing! Always took an interest and would suggest off the wall (for medicine) things.

It's like going to get a brazillian wax done, they've seen (or heard in the doctors case) everything before, it's just a little embarrassing having to show it (or say it) but then it's fine.

It is their job to get people in and out of there as much as possible and prevent the ones who don't really need to be there from coming in. Doctors are seriously overworked (or so I would be led to believe). Although mine have always been nice:smile:

...Despite some mishaps like having air pushed into me via IV through neglegance:p:

can't imagine having that done, and also can't imaging just going to a hair/beauty salon and getting it all out on the table!!

Quite honestly, I hate doctors especially dentists! All the power that they have over my health and my teeth is really annoying me.Dentists never tell you exactly what they are doing to your teeth they just do it and unless you actually ask them they dont explain it!Whats annoying me more are stupid GPs who know nothing and just give u pills for everything!

From personal experience I had a lump in my breast and it took me way over half a year to get it checked properly and have a scan through NHS!What if I had cancer?!Doubt I would be on here mumbling on about all these doctors.

Also, I know about 3 women now who all had breast cancer. All of them went to their GPs first to check and were told that it wasnt anything serious. Gladly neither of them listened and actually went privatelly and pretty much got an operation next day because they actually had cancer! They could have died because of these crappy doctors! How can you even trust them..... (no offence to people wishing to study medicine and stuff)

I mean maybe its just here in norfolk but surely this is not right!

My dad's a GP and my doctor was there when i was born! My dad basically knows all the local doctors. Im so glad never had any really embarassing problems as would have to go to a walk in clinic or somthing to avoid any information getting back to my parents! I know all doctor patient confidentiality stuff but i would rather avoid asking my dad's freinds for the pill or somthing. I dont mind going to the doctors but im awful on the phone and hate booking apointments with annoying receptionists.

maybe it's just me, but i find going to the doctors really embarrasing...
opinions on this and other people's views on "going to the doctors" please?

maybe it's because i go to the doctors for embarrasing things!

Well, I once had the doctor check my testicles as I found a lump... Turned out it was just a cyst. Wasn't a big deal really. Thing is, doctors are used to all kinds of weird ****. Its just part of the daily routine. So unless you have something really freaking uncommon they probably won't even lift an eyebrow about it. Basically, if you have heard about it, chances are that they have seen it a few thousand times already. Just better to get it over with and then you don't have to worry about it. That goes for both the embarrassment and whatever the reason you went to see the doc b.t.w.

I had to see a bloke about my repeat pill prescription once, and it was worse because he was really attractive! aah!

I have to go and have some blood taken tomorrow to go on the Bone Marrow register, also to check with the nurse that my vaccinations are up to date. Scary
