Psychology 2-mark questions

I recently took my first AS level psychology modula on memory, attachments, behavior etc. Unfortunatly i only got an E, so i'm retaking. However, I know i knew the information, i just had difficulty knowing what and how much to right for the answers, particularly the 2 mark questions. For example, it asked for a definition of encoding (2marks), i wrote the basic concept "encoding is the way in which information is placed in a memory store" and was stuck on how much further detail to go into. So i also wrote who the researcher was that investigated it, but clearly this was not enough to score 2marks or i would not have got such a low mark! Does anyone know the basic mark system? Like how much detail they want for a 2/6 mark question?!?!

I did AQA Psychology (Spec A), and for the 2-mark questions, you not only have to say what it is, but then give an example.
eg. "Encoding refers to the code used to store data in the memory. This can be based on the sound (acoustic encoding), sight (visual encoding) or the meaning (semantic encoding) of the stimulus."
That should get you the 2 marks.
I hope it helps. Just think: Define, then give an example.

Thanx, thats simple enough! (Well, means lots of revisin tho...) Any ideas about the 6mark questions? 18 marks im just going to have to keep practising. The 6 markers are like the 2mark questions, im just not clear on how much detail is needed! And as there is a very limited about of time (mark a minute) there's no time to go into too much detail. For example, a 6mark question is "Outline Bowlbys Maternal Instincts Hypothesis", any ideas? I know i could ask a teacher for this info but I find they go into it too much, when simplicity is best for me! Help from any1 is appriciated! kt x

I did Psychology AS with OCR. What I recommend is learn vocabulary, like you would in a foreign language (for the 2-marks Qs). Get a specialist dictionary and write down all the words there are for one definition. Then try to learn it by heart. I remember finding some of these very difficult, they used different words than we did in the lesson for one and the same thing, so we were left guessing what it could mean... Hope this helps.
