Mine is next Wednesday

Has anyone been?

if yes, did you get it recorded on tape?

Not personally but the school/college usually has on-site people from the photography/video society who will take the shots/clips and compile them into a CD for sale. Definitely convenient.

I don't think they film it here :s: and as PQ says, it really wouldn't be very interesting to watch. Guests aren't allowed to take pictures/film, but there is an official photographer.

The one I went to was dull as dishwater.

TIP - have an agreement with all your mates so that when any one of you go on stage, the others all roar and generally make a lot of noise. It's always good to do because the audience generally fall asleep after the 250th student and don't clap as loud etc. Makes you look more popular as well

We don't get to go up on a stage - we just have to kneel down and have Latin read at us. I don't even know if people clap. It's still pretty groovy though. Am v excited, it's all happening tomorrow!

This is what ours looks like:

Edit: We also don't get speeches or anything - we have a chapel service earlier in the day and then the Master gives a speech before we go to the ceremony, but nothing big. It's a bit of a conveyor belt really!

Ours are broadcast over the internet and there's also an archive of past graduations on the site. Mine is next Tuesday.

Had mine yesterday - was so cool(not in the weather sense though!). Got all dressed up in the morning (black skirt, white shirt, undergraduate gown and BA hood), realised my gown was still in Old Court after the previous night's drunkenness, rescued it and proceeded for the photo. The chapel service was lovely, especially as they sang "God be with you till we meet again" which is what was always sung at the end of year at my school, so it was especially poignant.

After drinkies and snacks we had a rehearsal for the ceremony, by which time we were all sweltering, then we lined up in order, had all our kit checked and then walked to Senate House - very glad I picked a nice central college. Once we were all in and all the guests were seated, it was actually very quick - they get through ~150 students in half an hour, so you don't get much time to breathe! We walk forwards in 4s, then the Praelector holds out his hand and each of us holds a finger while he says some stuff in Latin which basically means "These are nice people who have worked hard, please give them a degree." Our names are read out one by one, and we go forward to kneel in front of the Vice Chancellor (or her deputy, in our case the Master of Clare) like the picture above, they clasp our hands and say "Te etiam admitto ad eundum gradum" (I admit you also to this degree). You stand up, step back and bow, and that's it! We got our certificates on the way out, and then after waiting for all our friends to come out, have pictures taken etc, we went back to college for lunch and final goodbyes. It's all over very quickly but it's such a lovely traditional occasion it was definitely worth it. Happy happy

I got mine on monday. I'm looking forward to going, not cos im graduating, but to catch up with everyone! I think we can get dvds of our ceremony (portsmouth) afterwards if we want to but I don't think I'll bother personally, I'll probably never watch it :d
Why is mine in January? Anyone else have to wait a ridiculously long time for their ceremony?
