given that f(x)=3x^1/2 , x>= 0

sketch y = f(x)
y = 2f(x+1)
y = 2-f(x)

any1 show me what they look like and y?

Are you already given the curve of f(x)? If so then:
1. The graph is translated 2 units to the left (in the negative x direction). Then you deal with the 2 outside. The curve is narrower i.e closer to the y-axis.
2. The curve f(x) is flipped over due to the negative sign in front of the f(x). Then you move the curve up 2 units in the y-axis. You can rewrite the curve as -f(x)+2 if it helps.

Hope this helps.

Does anyone know how you measure in a sketch how much narrower or shallower you have the curve when y=af(x)? Or do you just guess, so y=2f(x) would be about half way to the axis, and y=3f(x) would be that bit closer to the y-axis?
Thanks
