I dunno if it differs for different areas but I was referred to the hospital from my GP and it took about 6-8 weeks.

EDIT: the hospital should send you a letter soon as acknowledgement that you have been referred and they should probably give you a guide line of how long you'll have to wait until your appointment.

your GP will send all your details over I should imagine.

I have just turned 16 - and therefore going to the hospital will be the first time I will have been to the main hospital for anything other than visiting people as I've always went to the children hospital. So will the hospital already have my details from when I turned 16 a few weeks ago?

Hey, you will almost definitely receive a letter in the post confirming the time and date of your appointment. With regards to the hospital having your information, if it is the first time you have been they will only have the details that your GP has passed to them, they will probably create a new casenote file (to be stored in the hospital) for you when you visit. I work in the Medical Records department of a pretty big hospital, and this is the way it works with us most of the time, though obviously it depends on the individual department as it can work differently

Or if they're mean like my hospital they'll send you a letter which gets your hopes up, just stating that you have been referred. Then it's another 6 weeks until you get an appointment letter. Ace.
