Mosquito bites

So.. summer time again and I'm already being eaten alive. Does anyone have any tips on how to:
a) make them stop itching
b) make them go away fast

They would be much appreciated

I bought one of those clicky things that gives you a little electric shock into the bite but I'm not really convinced it does anything much. Has anyone used one of these and if so do you think they have much effect?

Don't scratch them and they will go away faster.
Swallow vitamin B tabs. Also the electric things are pretty cool. Other than that, some cream might be a worth a squirt (as t'were).

yeah I don't scratch them but they still can be seen for DAYS and look horrible. I was bitten about 10 times on my forehead the other night and it looks like I have spots, it's horrible!
You must taste amazing!
haha, I'm a big victim of mosquito bites

The one thing that has helped me the most is a spray so that mosquitoes don't bite you.

As for the itching, I use a Chinese product for mosquito bites and they have helped me a lot!

I feel your pain. My arms are covered still in mosquito bites almost a week after being devoured.

Using anthisan (I think thats what its called) helps to stop the itching, but for me they didn't make em heal quick.

In the meantime pretend your a pirate and wear a bandanna to cover the bites up.

The best thing to protect yourself from mosquito bites is Avon Dry oil spray (the Soft and Sensual perfume). Thoroughly recommended - not just by me but some really hard Army guys who work out in the Belize jungle - they all smell delightful AND don't get bitten.

True, i'm going to kenya in july, and i've heard the recommendation of something like that and olay moisturizer or something. Yet, i've decided to stick to an insect repellent which contains 50% DEET. I would only use it however, if the mosquito bites get quite bad. DEET is rather bad for your skin and can damage plastics, as well as some synthentic fibers.

i was in tanzania 2 summers ago, this time of year mosquitos aren't so bad actually. you don't need 50% DEET for sure. plus it's not so much how many bites you get, it's that you don't want to get malaria! if you're on meds for that you'll be fine.

do you have calamine lotion in the UK? it's this pink cream that you use on bug bites, it's soothing and stops the itching.

I was told to take 50% DEET, so i think i'll just take it, maybe they're just really vicious in kenya :p:

And of course, i'm on malaria medication! Or rather, i will be.

No offense, but if the person that told you that isn't African, it's probably a gross over exaggeration. I've spent signficant time in Tanzania, Ghana, and Nigeria, and I'm telling you: 50% DEET is bad for your skin, eyes, clothes, and it's totally unnecessary. Take 20-25% and you'll be more than fine, I promise. It's a very strong chemical that you should limit exposure to at all costs, esp. if you'll be on antimalarials.

But do what you want...just trying to help.

yeah thanks for the advice. I might just take 1x25% and 1x50%. Then i shouldnt have any problems
I think i got bitten the other day, it looks like a bite and is really itchy

neway, i find it really hard 2 stop itching myself, but would it be fine 2 put a plaster over it to stop myself from itching it, or would that make things worse?

It probably wouldn't hurt.

I found a huge sexy bite on my back in the shower earlier.. just lovely. Used the zappy thing about 30 times on it, it's actually THAT big.

Have you ever tried taking odourless garlic pills? They hate the taste when they bite you and they tend to stay away. It takes a few months to build up in your system though so this advice it probably too late!
I get bitten loads too. I got a massive one on my arm this week, and in a panic seeing as I have my summer ball soon, I coated it in bite/sting cream, then got some savlon antiseptic spray (a delightful shade of orange) and coated it in that too. Its the fastest healing bite I've ever had with that combination!

Luckily for my they havent been too bad this year where I live. I did wake up at 3am to find something buzzing by my ear repeatedly, when i regained more consciousness i turned the light on and it was the BIGGEST mozzy i have seen in ages. I chased it around my room with a magazine and got it against my wall and it burst and left a mess of gooed up mosquito and quite a large amount of blood on my wall! The little bugger must have got me before his demise.

Maybe I'm missing something but surely they have to bite you first before they realise what you taste like?

Yes but they'd bite you once instead of 5 times.
