Hi,
Just wondering if anyone is applying to do learning disability nursing in 2014?
Seen numerous adult child and mental health threads?
would be great to talk to some like minded applicants
Good luck everyone x

Also wondered if I do this course and wanted to go abroad, are there any countries that wouldnt accept it?
As ive heard Australia can be funny about l.d nursing qualification and I would have to do a further 18months conversion?
Which again seems a bit daft when you cover a lot of which is on the adult course?
Thanks!

Hi, I have interview for Learning Disability Nursing on Wednesday. Have you already had your interview? I have also seen a lot of posts for adult and children's, you're the first I have come across for this!

Nope! Still waiting on my reference coming back before I can send off my application. Ucas have been emailing me saying they cannot accept 2 of my referees as they won't submit the application to ucas directly. Stressing me out to say the least!
And ive looked everywhere, doesnt seem to be too many people applying unless everyone is hiding haha. Its a shame coz ive been searching for fellow l.d applicants.
But fingers crossed! Where have you got your interview?
Feeling prepared? Let me know how it goes and best of luck  x

Oh that would be ideal at the moment

I am now going to be watching the news for the next 24 hours to see what I can pick up for interview hehe.

I know at wolverhampton there is only like 24 places a year for this course. It does appear that people are not generally aware of this profession 😞

Yeh ive been keeping up to date with all things nursing. Learning disability nursing just seems to take a back seat.
Watched 999 whats your emergency last night on mental health, just seems so sad that they're patched up and sent back home when they have an ongoing illness :frown:
Hopefully I can get onto the course whenever my referee wants to complete my reference. Didnt think that would be the worst part of my application either!
Best of luck for the interview and let me know how it goes

Hey guys! I want to apply to LD nursing as well! I don't live in the UK though so I won't get a chance to attend open days ): I'm wondering what you guys could tell me about the universities you've visited? Anything about the campus, teaching and city/town would be helpful! c:

Hi woro!
Ive been and visited Newcastle, northumbria, ulster, queens and hull universities in my travels.
Have you looked on unistats? Thats got a few helpful facts and figures about universities?
Im probably biased being from Newcastle but I would say northumbria university is really good for a student lifestyle and the transition into young professionals as they call it. Its teaching facilities are good and ive visited the local hospitals and many have been revamped over the years and specialise in teaching due to the locality of them to the university.
Queens and ulster I do like too but ulster do not do l.d nursing. Im hoping to have a guided tour around the university soon to have a look at the course facilities.
Theres also many videos in youtube of various universities and student experiences.
Have you any idea of where you might like to apply in the uk?
Best of luck!
Anything else just ask

Thank you for the help! I'll have a look on unistats and youtube [: I was considering Queen's and Keele, but I just found out that LD nursing isn't a branch of nursing where I come from, so it might not be in my best interest to get a degree in it. :frown: I'm applying to Reading and UCL for foundation year/progression to Speech and Language Therapy, and I'm not sure where else yet. :c

Yeah I've found that l.d nursing is pretty much only recognised within the uk. Although the uk apparently are in big need of those in mental health and learning disability nursing.
You can do a conversion course if you apply for adult to go into l.d or vice versa. It just takes about 18-24 months extra :/ it depends on what you are passionate about and what is going to work for you in the long run.
Best of luck with it all though :yy:
