Right well I originally planned to do linguistics on its own at uni but one of my teachers said I'm better off doing English Language & Linguistics which was my other interest since the career options won't be as narrow

I want to go to a uni in London so I'm definitely applying to QMUL and KCL. But where I really want to go is UCL, which has a fantastic rep for Linguistics and I do think I could get in however they only offer Linguistics on its own and not with English Language :/

so is it better off going to UCL and doing linguistics on its own in regards to employability and career options, or English language & linguistics at Queen Mary for example?

Thanks.

I would have to disagree with your teacher.

English language isn't a vocational course, there will be very few (if any) jobs that you can do with a degree in English Language that you can't do with a degree in Linguistics.

Based on what you've said, go to UCL, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

I rather think that your teacher doesn't know what they're on about.

Go to UCL, and if you don't want to study English language, then don't study English language.
