My boyfriend and I are travelling to Rome for a few days in January. Neither of us have been to Italy before, so we'd love some tips on hidden haunts & reasonably-priced restaurants etc.

Rome is simply amazing... Especially when it is not crowded as it is in the summer... So I think you guys will have lots of fun there in January!

You absolutely cannot avoid doing the touristic visits... Colosseum, San Pietro, Fori Romani, and so on... But to eat do not go to those places that are just next to the attractions... Once you are in the city centre you will find many places to eat (even simple sandwiches) for more reasonable prices... And better quality

In terms of specifically where to eat... It just depends on where you go, so cannot say something very precise about that.
