I know most people would put Durham because it's generally viewed as a better uni, but if Leeds is better than Durham for a specific course and yet Durham is better overall, which would you go for? When I say 'better' I mean according to the league tables - how much attention should I pay to their rankings?

I have applied to both... presuming that I will not get an offer from Durham though as it is my 'high flyer' ! I think I would pick Durham over Leeds though if given the choice as I am a village girl! I don't know how I would cope in a big city..

It depends on the sector, but generally speaking subject-specific tables count (or should count) way more than overall profiles!

That said, you should look at the different indicators in the ranking and decide which one are important to you... Then, if you have the possibility, go to open days and campus visits to understand how you fit into the specific university...

Small city or big city? Collegiate or city university? Historical or modern/ Victorian industrial architecture? Not all that many shops/lots of shops? Course you really like/course you quite like?

Durham has a better reputation overall, but I think I'd choose leeds purely because of the fact that it's a much much better city. I'm a huge city boy though, and I can't imagine myself in a small town like Durham

It's dependent on the course to be honest.

I personally would choose Durham if I had the choice between the two.

Just check whether the course is held at the Stockton campus, as I think some of the financial courses are, and that may affect your decision.
