Typically students cite property law as an example of a dry and tedious subject. Take a read of the below and see what you think:

It depends on you as a person. For example, some people find painting "Boring" while other people enjoy it so much they make their profession. It's the same with law. Some people hate it and drop the subject altogether. It's difficult to know whether or not you’ll like it because you don't get an opportunity to study it at school (at least not in Scotland) or if you do, it's not studied in any great detail.
If you’re asking what subjects law students like studying it's really very varied.

Ok since i basically got clobbered for asking if Law is different outside Oxford, perhaps the better question is law generally regarded as boring, in addition to being hard work? If so could someone give an example of a boring element? Several people seem to react negatively when i say i want to do it.
Thanks

its boring alright. Basically i would SERIOUSLY reconsider your choice if you chose law because 'its a good degree' - unless you really want to do it and are interested by it, then chances are you will find it boring, or at least find the first modules that are compulsory boring ...

there is a lot of tedious reading to do - and unfortunately not many shortcuts...

It was the same when I started at UCL: everyone loathing the prospect of property law in the first year. Ironically it actually ended up being many peoples' favourites, including myself! I'm not sure if it's because of the way UCL teach it or if it's just coincidence.

Property law put into context can be very interesting because it applies so often in everyday life.

I enjoyed property, too. Although at times seeing how all the concepts fitted together was tricky, by the end of the course (or rather my revision  ) I felt I had an idea about most of it. Then results day came and it was my lowest mark.
lol. Exactly the same here :p:

I find it very boring a lot of the time. In all honesty I wanted to go into hairdressing but my parents wouldn't let me.
Lol, at my uni in first year everyone fears contract ... but thats because every year 1/5 people fails it!! Land law is the one everyone fears in second year but only cos there is so much to it its really interesting. And after semester 1 I hated EU law but semester 2 was all about free movt and competition which was really interessting compared to the guff we did all about in term 1 ofwhich only judicialreview wasreally relevant!! So far I have found criminal repetitive (AR, MR then defences) and so I dont like it ... tort was a bit gash and "understanding law" theintroductory module we did was a bit crap, other than that its been pretty interesting!! Especially when you get to choose options that really interest you!

I have to say after having a glance at that property law link I think i'm gonna find that the most boring module ever. I loved doing criminal law at A level. Perhaps it is right that criminal law is repetitive (AR,MR,defences), but at least you know where you stand with the subject.
I've just finished my second year Law with Govt at UUJ and I'll tell you what I've thought of every module so far.

First semester 1st year
Introduction to Law - really basic stuff but quite interesting to know the basic principles
EU Law - dull, very dull - I hated this module.
Introduction to Government - interesting enough and a gift of a module.

Second semester 1st year
Criminal Law - my favourite law module, you learn the stuff you automatically think of when you think of law - murders etc.
Public Law - extremely dry but I found it was easy enough to specialise in to cut down on the boredom.
Government in the UK and Ireland - alright.

First semester 2nd year
Tort - again quite interesting with clear boundaries between the different topics.
Contract Law - despite what everyone else seems to say, I found this module enjoyable and relevant to life.
Government of Northern Ireland - very interesting.

Second semester 2nd year
Law of Evidence - I'm not sure really. This module was 100% coursework for us so I really did no work throughout the year and just prepared a decent portfolio - I hope!
Land Law - difficult and boring.
Applied Policy Studies - the biggest load of waffle ever - not sure what the module was about.
Its really boring until you stick at it enough to understand it.a subject

Its really boring until you stick at it enough to understand it. Sounds obvious put it gets better as you get into it and pick up more. Like its naff sitting in a formula one car not knowing how to drive a Lada. Its tough and requires patience. Also for contract in my first sem I was put off by the commerical language that I seemed to always need a dictionary for. Also they gave us a very 'flowery' jurisprudence book and I thought that all law was about being flowery and it simply was not.

YEAR 1 (Hull)

Contract- stick at it and you'll score well. V. useful for life generally
Criminal- seems interesting but most mess it up at our uni (my only ever 2.2)
Legal Systems- never understood what their objective was- too fragmented

Tort- deceptively easy
Jurisprudence- got into the Hart v. Dworkin debate. Read the postscript to Hart which most don't seem to and you'll get a debate going
Constitutional- enjoyable and highly relevant to people seeking to be a citizen not a subject

Contract - for the love of God, why was Denning born?! In all honesty contract bored me! It was saved only by the legend that is Paulden!

Criminal - funny, but didn't do too well on the exam. Might have been because I expressed an opinion and according to a certain lecturer "you are 1st years. you are not qualified to have an opinion"

Legal systems - Why?!!

Legal Skills - I liked, but that may have been down to a certain tutor.

Public law - interesting, but what is it with PB and those sodding lists of dates?!

Tort - just funny!

EU - no comment.

Land - boring, technical, good mark again because of a certain tutor!

Trusts - boring, but got a good mark. no idea how.

Overall, law is actually more fun than I just made out. The last 3 years have been bloody hard work, but I've enjoyed it. (except the times I was wondering if I should be there and thinking of quitting :p: )
