Once I'm at Uni, as I understand it, by your second year you need to be thinking about applying to company schemes, but that obviously requires you to know exactly what it is you want to do.

I'm unsure of which one I would most be interested in out of the law or management consulting, and having had very little work experience, I am unsure of what each profession is like. Nor do I know what subjects they look for in particular, or whether it's even worth it.

Anyone here on a training scheme or something, who could give me some tips?

There are first year insight days for law and management consulting. Apply to them, go to events (you often get free booze/food) and just have a chat to the grads about how they find their jobs. Read up on stuff like Management Consulted (admittedly American, but quite good nevertheless) and Chambers Student/Roll on Friday/Lex100 as to law firms. Then make up your own mind as to what you want to do.

Feel free to take it or leave it. There's more to life than the city.
