(b) hence the velocity and direction of motion of the mass at that time.

(a) horizontal component = 26.812 m/s, vertical component = 2.027 m/s (downward)
(b) velocity = 26.889 m/s, direction = 4.30 (below the horizontal)

What have you attempted so far? We can't give you workings out on here, only guide you in getting the answer.

You just need to use the suvat equations.

The horizontal component of the initial velocity is 35 cos 40 and the vertical component is 35 sin 40. There is no horizontal component of acceleration and the vertical component is -g.
