Gonna Have To Wake Up Early ....

Hey,

I know its a long time away but when i start my new college next year i'm gonna have to wake up at 6am (due to travel time) - this is a massive change as i usually wake up at 7.15am for school. I'm worried i won't be able to concentrate at skule cuz i'm gonna be half dead! lol It takes me ages to sleep. What can i do to become a effiecent sleeper lol (if such a thing exists lol!)

Thanx Alot!!

yer why is that anon, its hardly an embarrassing problem being tired in the morning.
Simple really try and go to bed earlier and after a while your natural body clock will get used to getting up earlier.

does it take u ages to go to sleep cos your mind's too active or because you're restless? if it's cos you're restless, maybe do some exercise during the day and if it's your mind then, um just try to think of calming things. also when you sleep, dont have a light on in the room, or on in the hallway as that disturbs trying to fall asleep, and also having a TV or radio on may not help cos you're distracted by trying to listen what's going on, however, on the other hand, having the tv and radio on for some people helps them sleep, so everyone's different.

also if you know you have to wake up at a certain time to be somewhere, you will wake up! or that may just be me! cos i hate being late, so i always force myself to wake up and get out of bed, even when im so tired!

Yeah, that happens to me. Its so weird/cool, if I set my alarm to whatever time, I always end up waking up a few mins before the alarm is about to go off.
This happened to me.At school I didn't need to be up until 7.30.At college I had to be up at 6.As a result I skipped most of my morning lessons for two years.

Meh,I still got my A-levels!

It's not a stupid question at all! Lots of people find it hard to adapt to getting up earlier- this weekend and on Monday too I'm going on my assessed silver Duke of Edinburgh expedition and I know how hard it's going to be to get up at a quarter to five every morning!

Firstly, the body adapts to changes fairly quickly. While it is pretty likely that for the first few weeks, or month(s) perhaps, you might not feel so alert in the morning. But gradually, as you get used to the routine, it should get a little easier to get up, and you should become used to it.

Try to start getting up a little earlier each day in the weeks preceding your start at college. You'll find it easier to adapt if you gradually start getting up earlier and earlier; rather than if you go from getting up at 7:15 to getting up at six straight away.

Good luck! I hope you enjoy your new college!

Best way for you sleepy heads to wake up:

Place your alarm clock on the other side of the room, not right next to your head. Then when the alarm goes off, you are forced to get up to switch it off.
Coffee is your friend.

You probably wont adjust to it easily, just need to get into the habit.

No need to be so harsh!
Some people have problems sleeping or are just not suited to super early mornings, and need to adapt to them!
OP, don't worry. I advise going to bed by ten every night, and you may find that you need a snack or something around 9/10 ish because you will have had breakfast much earlier and your body clock may 'advance' at first so that 10 may seem like lunch to it, but after a while you'll be fine- just have something healthy like raisons for energy

Also some people don't want to get a reputation as the person who asks what could be construed as 'random' or possibly obvious questions on TSR so choose to use the anon function for that, as people often quote old posts by others.
Just put your alarm on. It'll take about a week to get use to it. Why, oh why did he post anon?
im not a early morning person at all and i have to get up at 5.30 for work, i have 5 very loud alarms placed around the room so i have to get up and find them, i also cant go to bed early so ill have a nap the afternoon before,
