Please check my understanding.

Hi all!

I have 2 questions regarding cell division (mitosis). Please could someone clear up my doubts.

Thanks in advance!

1) Following the replication of DNA in the S phase, is the chromatin in the form of 92 single DNA molecules in a random mess in the nucleus (uncondensed), of which 46 of them are replicas of the original?

2) How does the DNA condense to form the X-shaped chromosomes [where each half (> and <) are sister chromatids]? Do the single DNA molecules (chromosomes) prior to prophase seek out the identical chromosome and join together at the centromere to form the X shape?
