5 months and counting for security checks - Home Office watch

    • Thread Starter

    Hi guys,

I was offered a position as a Statistical Officer at the Home Office in June through direct appointment (having failed to get onto the Fast Stream).

The offer was pending security checks, which I was informed would take 6 weeks but could potentially take longer. It has now been 5 months and I have been in regular correspondence with my contacts at the Home Office. They've informed me that an external department, the FCO, is conducting my checks, but they are very uncooperative with regards to the status.

I was told that it takes a maximum of 6 months for these checks, so, fingers crossed, it should be over next month. I can't be too sure however.

Just wondering if anyone else has been in a similar position with national government departments, how long their checks took, etc.
