Predicted 41 points in IB: where to apply?

I have been predicted 41 points. I shall most likely achieve (REALISTICALLY) 40-41. I want to read law. My deputy head said I should apply to 4 good unis (ambiguous in itself) and 2 not so good ones (ambiguous again!). What do you think...given that Oxford and most other unis recognise a score of 38 points to be equivalent to 38 points. Where should I apply? I don't to apply to a uni too far north, e.g. Durham.

Thx guys

Wow, from 36 to 41 in a matter of weeks.

If you check this you will note that I said 'what if'. Now my prediction has been finalised. It is 41 points.

Actually after checking there was no "what if".

Look just go away. 41 is what I have been predicted.

What subjects are you doing for the IB?

Highers: english, economics, history
Standards: chemistry, french, maths studies

hope this helps
41 you could probably apply anywhere ... 40 is like the threshold for very good makrs isnt it (I dont know the system particularly well).

Anyway oxbridge, bristol, UCL, LSE, notts, basically anywhere good ... just read around, go to open days and see what takes your fancy.

OK. The reason I ask is because at my school the average IB point score is 40, so all the time I am amongst people who are better. It therefore gives the false impression that I wouldn't be able to cope at Oxbridge. Yeah - I mean to contextualise the IB: most universities agree that 38 points is equivalent to AAA at A level.

That IB score is above the usual requirement for pretty much every university so you'll be able to apply anywhere. Now, go and do the research yourself and visit the universities that you like the look of. Make the decision for yourself, stop asking the opinions of a bunch of anonymous strangers on an internet forum.

There is absolutely no point in applying to those two 'not so good ones' if you would not be happy to spend three years there and would be unlikely to accept an offer. You'll just be wasting two applications that you could be making to better universities.

OK. I understand what your saying. But isn't law extremely competitive; don't get me wrong my P.S is good and I have a genuine interest, which is clear from the P.S. But isn't there still a ratio of like 10:1. Will all of these candidates have top grades (very high)? I wanted to apply for the top universities but was worried that I may not get an offer at all!

The majority will have good grades but then so do you (if you achieve 41 points). If you apply to six top universities then in all probability you will not receive six offers.

The worry that you might not get an offer at all is one that many people worry about (me included) and so they apply to a lesser university as an insurance. However, they often do this, having no intention of attending that university regardless of what offers they get. If you are not going to be happy somewhere and would not feel comfortable accepting then there is little point applying. You'd be better off making applications to six universities that you do want to go to. Provided the rest of your application is strong you are almost certain to get at least one offer, probably even more. If you are unfortunate enough to not receive any offers, apply again next year. That way you'll only have 'wasted' one year by not going to university (you'll be able to travel, work, etc. instead) rather than three years at a university that you've hated every minute of.

Sure but assuming I do get 41 points. I will be pluddy pissed off if I got that and did not have any offers.

And rightly so. Believe me, if you do get 41 points and the rest of your application is strong, you will get at least one place.

So long as you don't come across in your application the same way you do on here, you should be fine.

If you got rejected having a prediction of 41 points, chances are they dont want someone like you at their university.
