I am resitting my coursework tomorrow, the descriptive writing task. I did this at the end of Year 9 and I got 14/20 which was a B but I'm aiming for an A* this time because I really want my overall coursework grade to be an A*. I'm now in Year 11 and the title I've got is the school canteen. Any tips on how to structure it or anything specific that I should mention?

describe it how it really is, you can emphasis the negatives such as the state that it is left in during a particular time or the environment, like you can talk about the positives - it being quite a tranquil kind of place then when the bell goes the place is swamped by kids and etc, if your allow to story tell a bit then this may be a good idea because it would enable you to use all kinds of linguistic devices and etc - hope this helps!

Just be pretty much cynical about every aspect of it. Watch some Charlie Brooker on YouTube to get an idea of what I mean

I honestly think the best way to do writing is in a cynical and humorous way. I always use a lot of exaggeration and metaphors. Print off a list of writing techniques and use every one at least once. Those are really the only tips I can offer. With enough time to plan I'm sure you can get an A* just remember to perfect a little at a time.
