Woman Murders 3 Men

Peterborough ditch deaths: Joanna Dennehy pleads guilty

A woman has pleaded guilty to murdering three men whose bodies were found in ditches in Cambridgeshire.

The bodies of Lukasz Slaboszewski, 31, Kevin Lee, 48, and John Chapman, 56, were found in ditches 10 miles (16km) apart in Newborough and Thorney.

Joanna Dennehy, 31, of Bifield, Orton Goldhay, Peterborough, pleaded guilty at the Old Bailey earlier.

The bodies of the victims were found in March and April. All three had been stabbed.

Dennehy admitting killing Mr Slaboszewski between 19 and 29 March. He had been stabbed in the heart, post-mortem tests showed.

Stabbed in neck

She also pleaded guilty to murdering both Kevin Lee and John Chapman on 29 March.

Mr Lee died from stab wounds to the chest, and Mr Chapman had been stabbed in the neck and chest, tests revealed.

Dennehy also admitted "preventing the lawful and decent burial" of all three murder victims.

She also pleaded guilty to two additional charges of attempting to murder two other men.

Any bets on how short her sentence will be?

Don't be silly. She will get a mandatory life sentence as all murders without aggravating circumstances require by law, with a minimum of 30 years in prison as it involved more than one person. The judge has very little say in the sentence of murderers as it's already laid out in the law.

As above - 30 years will be the starting point. Could go higher.

Or according to the Daily Mail types out there - a few years.

More like 8 months and a Playstation 3 in her jail cell.

Two paragraphs about wasting the taxpayer's money from someone on benefits for bonus points.

RIP to the innocent men. God bless them and shame on that horrible woman.
Wow man you couldn't even wait for the sentencing before making this thread? Because obviously what TSR needs is another bloody thread about gender privilege.

She lives in a council house, all paid for by the taxpayer, of course.

It is well known that females on average receive lesser sentences. However whether this case will reflect that cannot be known at this point.

I think even if she does get a 30 year sentence it won't be as long as she serves.

The issue of females receiving lesser sentences and to what extent this is true remains one that needs to be answered. If it is the case then this should be amended in the courts, also amended should be the current law on rape as it is currently misandrist not to mention archaic, in that females cannot in UK law commit rape. The fact that is has already not been amended to include female rape on males is disturbing.
Probably 30 weeks.

There is a case to this. With me I am principally concerned with the equality before the law, if a female receives a lesser sentence than a male counterpart would this must be amended and vice versa. Only then can we begin to deal with a culture that routinely victimises males.

It's a minimum term. A person must serve the minimum term at the very least. After that minimum term, they can apply for parole.

We agree that the Daily Mail is a contemptible newspaper, however there is a case that females do receive lesser sentences.

That research concerns US sentencing - I wonder if the same can be said of sentencing in the UK?

Also, the point I made is not gender specific. Minimum terms are minimum terms - they are set out in statute and there is limited scope for gender to have an effect.
