PGCE or SCITT??? Watch

Hello everyone,

I hope there is someone in the Student Room who could give me as much advice as possible choosing a PGCE or SCITT course. I am applying to do both in Birmingham speciailising in secondary music, and this evening I went to an ITT recruitment evening at Perry Beeches Academy for more insight into the SCITT courses that the school offers.

I am worried about the competition I face with many other students/graduates: there are 24 placed available at BCU and 4 at Perry Beeches. A relative has explained that Perry Beeches/SCITT courses are not as credible as a PGCE. I understand about all the work I have to do (and very prepared to take it on!) but I would like advice on which one I will get the most out of and will secure me a music job once completed. I also understand about the competition of teaching jobs. There are not that many in Birmingham, so am willing to relocate if need be.

Finally, I need to make a 3rd choice by Thursday. Does anyone know of other institutions in the West Midlands that specialise in PGCE secondary music? I have found similar courses in Nottingham, Bristol and Manchester but would prefer to stay local.

Many thanks
