I applied to the University of Manchester for English, and got rejected straight up. I think that's because my predicted grades were AAC, and they want AAA only. Anyway, the University of Liverpool (first choice) made me an offer, so I was pretty happy.

Today, Manchester has just emailed me, saying:

"Thank you for your application to the University of Manchester for English Literature.
We have reviewed your predicted/achieved grades and would like to invite you to complete stage two of the application process. Please follow the link below to the online assessment:"

Can someone explain this? Have they changed their minds or is this just a procedure every rejection gets?

Call them up. Better to know for sure rather than just speculating, I'm sure that since they sent you a mixed message they won't mind.

I think that'd be best to do. I'm not too good with phone calls, do you think that I could email them?

They're still on 'unsuccessful' on UCAS.

Email should be ok but if you want a fairly quick reply you're better speaking to them over the phone. Most unis will be fairly busy this time of year so amy take a while to reply to the email.

But anyway, good luck and congrats on the Liverpool offer

Thanks!

I'm just wondering if they've gotten me mixed up, or if they actually have changed their minds.
