I've ended up with L = ((1-t)^0.5)/2 + 1. Is this correct?

If you add a copy of extra brackets then yes. There is a second solution too but I don't know whether you are supposed to realise that or not?

I'm gonna guess that the second solution is -1/(2(1-t)^0.5) + 1? Can you show your working out please.
