    Hi!
before kS4 students have to study maths, english, science, p.e, art, music, french, spanish, design technology, english language, english literature, ict, art, religious studies (i might have missed a subject out as there are so many)

In yrs 10 and 11 teenagers do their GCSE's so they HAVE to study- Maths, English literature/english language, Science (most students study Biology, Chemistry, Physics seperately) and 2hrs of physical sport a week. In addition students have to choose 4 extra (different) subjects e.g. I chose Spanish, History, Religious studies and Art. But other students might choose: french, drama, food technology, engineering, electronics, business studies, ICT, sports studies, media studies and there is a lot more options!

Then in yr12 which is college/6th form we choose our A level options, where we drop all our subjects and choose only 3 or 4 subjects we want to study for the next two years, again there is a lot of options, but I chose- Spanish, Psychology, History and English Language! Then in yr13 you continue atleast 3 of these subjects and drop one! I chose to continue Spanish, History and Psychology! And then after yr13 it's time to apply to university, if you want which is what I am doing this year!

However lots of students don't continue onto yr12 or yr13 and they instead go and find a job or an apprenticeship or go to a different college to study courses like: electronics/hairdressing etc (vocational courses).

Hope this has given you an insight into the British education system

Alongside A levels it is possible to study for an EPQ- independant project-where you do a project on anything you want and you get marks for it!
Or you can do something like critical thinking or general studies.
