I am finding it difficult to get insurance since insurance companies want to know such specific details. For instance, my dad got a few points on his license for speeding.
I am with Direct Line. Would it be easy to get the car insured via phone?

They are closed at the moment.

    Any insurance suggestions?

My dad told me it would be much cheaper to insure me as a named driver and I agree.

If your planning on buying your own car............and are planning on driving it the most.
Then you have to be the main driver, otherwise your insurance is invalid and its illegal.

Just use comparison sites, to get a rough idea

As said above, being a named driver when you're actually the main driver is called fronting. It's a big thing insurers look out for, and they don't like paying money for claims so they tried hard not to.

All companies want to know "specific details" like how many points drivers have as well, they base their risk assessments on that information.
Use comparison sites, then call them up and say something along the lines of, "X company has quoted £Y, can you beat that?"

Use a comparison site, try different things such as different types of cover (third party fire and theft, fully comp etc) try it with other people (your parents) as named drivers (not the main driver) then give the best quote a call and try and get a lower price.

I found that direct line were very expensive! Went with quinn direct as my first insurer then used admiral the passed two years.

With regards to your dads speeding points, you could put your mum as a named driver rather than your dad (unless your dad would NEED to drive it occasionally).

Try getting quotes online and on the phone. You can usually get cheaper quote online, but on the phone you can haggle with them a bit.

Try loads of different companies. Comparison sites are good to get an idea of which companies are cheaper, but then go to the companies directly to get a quote- as this is uaually cheaper than going through the comparison site. Also try companies that arent on comparison sites, such as aviva, churchill and direct line.
