I'm 25 and think that I over-masturbate.

I've read conflicting things about this online whether it's actually healthy or not healthy, but in terms of my own experience I've noticed a lack of energy, inability to focus, brain fog type symptoms and lack of interest or pleasure from normal sexual activities, i.e. with my girlfriend I wouldn't find myself that sexually aroused, ever. I started to find sex a bit boring!

When I say over masturbation, I mean 2, 3 sometimes 5 or 6 times a day. I noticed through my own self observation that I will use it as a stress relief, even when I feel slightly stressed out. I understand this is probably due to the dopamine release but still, it has beocme a huge waste of my time, and started to impact my whole life.

I have had anxiety issues most of my life and at the age of 17 started developing depression which I've had on and off since then. I've just finished a degree in nutrition and can now udnerstand links between my anxiety, my other health issues/adrenal health/gut health etc and can also see how this chronic masturbation is not going to be healthy for me.

I've decided to cut down to once every other day. Whether or not I will be successful I am not sure, but I have to try. I already feel very agitated, restless and almost shakey and it's only been a few hours. I feel stressed and anxious, surely a sign of addiction withdrawel!?

I'm wondering if anyone else has this problem and overcame it? I also feel it has affected my confidence somehow, in simply speaking to people, knowing how to hold a conversation etc.

This is a serious topic so please no immature answers. I'll appreciate anyones feedback about it.

If you're truly serious, take my advice and go watch A Serbian Film. It surely made me want to vomit at the thought of anything sexual.

Done that, including using it as stress-relief.

How mechanical is this for you? Are you masturbating because you're horny and your girlfriend isn't available, or just a quick and easy way to get the happy brain chemicals afterwards?

This sounds more like depression, rather than 'over masturbation'. What are you doing about that, and what other stress relief is available? (Switching to alcohol is unlikely to be a good idea!)

Thankyou! It is very helpful reading the "seemingly" thousands of people that have given it up and reported benefits. I too have social anxiety, maybe it will help with that!!!

It's aimed at you giving up porn ('artificial stimulus') rather than masturbation per se.

I'd still bet that what you have is depression and this is a symptom, not a cause.

Since both can be symptoms of the other, it's hard to judge from a scenario like this. Even if depression is the cause, he'll still need to get rid of the ****ty coping mechanism to get to the real issue.

That's what I call chronic anonism disease. My advice would be to divert your energy towards more constructive means. Get yourself busy with work.
PS: Don't even start masturbating and learn self control.
