Thinking of having SOAS as my insurance but just want to know of it's reputation, I've heard it fluctuates every few years with it's ranking and reputation. Any truth in this? I'll be studying International Relations.

I suppose to some extent it depends what field you want to go into. I can't really give you a definitive answer but if it helps, two of my old flatmates at SOAS went to work with well known NGOs in Africa (both did Development Studies), one got offers to teach in a German university (Applied Linguistics), one is a diplomat (Law), and one is in the UN (Violence, Conflict & Development). So going to SOAS didn't hamper them We were all doing master's degrees incidentally.

I initially applied to SOAS for IR this year but quickly changed it to LSE as it wasn't respected as much. A lot of the people I spoke didn't even know what it was.

BUT, I would say that as a specialist university for the arts and humanities, it's a pretty great university that will give you a well-rounded education, particularly in the field of social sciences. Plus, it's reallllyyy good for IR!

I think you should focus more on whether you like the course and university area/life more!

SOAS is a very respected University especially in Law and Social Sciences/Arts and Humanities (Ranked 26th in the world)
