I'm quite surprised there wasn't a thread about this already. Hull will be the City of Culture in 2017 having beaten the competition of Swansea, Dundee and Leicester to the title.

I have to confess, I like Hull. It has been badly typecast as a city with nothing to offer but that's not the case at all. My favourite poet Philip Larkin is from the city, the Ferens Art Gallery has an excellent display of C20 art and the Truck Theatre is nationally renowned. Combine that with the funding the City of Culture win brings and we might all have to re-shape our image of the city.

If you still think Hull is a dump I'd encourage you to look at the Old Town and the Charterhouse and the Garden Suburb on Street View.
