Could anybody solve this equation?: x² - 6x - 39 = 0

If it helps, I think the answer is 6.56 to 3 significant figures. I just want to know how to get there.

quadratic formula x = (-b +/- root(b^2 - 4ac))/(2a)

Complete the square

Or use the formula

Its a quadratic equation, so use the pq-formula to get the results.

You could also complete the square if you wanted to.
