I don't understand what this means - Nuclear decay A2 Physics

'The proton number determines the number of electrons in each atom, which in turn gives rise to the chemical properties. Isotopes therefore have the same chemical properties because they have the proton number. However, they will have different atomic masses and therefore different densities. The latter property of isotopes enables the separation of uranium-235 and uranium-238 by a diffusion process in the manufacture of 'enriched' uranium duel rods for nuclear reactors.'
