hmm yeah. these new child protection laws are quite silly. we're not allowed to help a rainbow up if they fall over, or hold their hand or anything. its so silly. and generally, our lot can already write their names so i dont have a problem with that. i really like it, nearly finished my warrant yay!

Bex, why did you sit in a corner? I guess you're not interested in making a soc!

[edit] i just read your post sorry. i am in a PMS slep enduced mode.

I'm a young leader for a Brownie troop.
Did Brownies (same pack I'm a leader for), Guides but got bored after a while and moved to Ventures Scouts.
Anyone going to Sun Run next weekend?

Is anyone interested in making a GirlGuiding Society? Or is this a bad idea? I think its a good one.

Whats good and bad about GirlGuiding UK, and do people think it is still all goody-two-shoes girlies who go? the traditional view of Guiding -

Badges and Ging Gang Goolie

It isnt like that any more. Does anyone agree with me?

Ging gang goolie goolie goolie goolie wotsit
ging gang goo
ging gang goo!

But its great :O

well they got rid of a lot of badges when i was younger and in guides, wasnt actually that happy about that, i thought badges were fun :p:

I switched to scouts later, does guides really let boys join now? Girls are allowed in all scout sections, though there tends to be less in the younger groups.
when i was involved in it letting boys in was something they'd not even consider in guides, too many tradiotional minded people in charge...

They've moderned it up alot recently.

Sounds like a good way to meet little girls.

im assistant guide leader! i also went to japan with hampshire east senior section last october. I think that the view tha all we do is sit around do badges and sing is very very outdated In the past few years with my unit we have been scuba-diving, seen grease the musical, big gig(obviously) and in september we are taking 22 guides to the isle of wight for an activity weekend where we will doing activities such as quad biking and zip wires. I think people that take the mick out of guiding need to open there eyes and see what its really like before they judge!!!

depends on your view of women!

Reply 31

Ur...since when could boys join guides?
I help with brownies. They are cute.

Reply 32

I think we should have a society. It depends on the guide/brownie/rainbow group but if the leader is laid back and not traditional they can allow boys to join if they wish lol. I've never known any to want to join officially but we have some of the girl's brothers stay at brownies for fun sometimes.

Reply 33

I don't think boys can actually be members, whenever we take boys on camp with us they are scouts and covered by the scouts insurance not the guides. I'm a pre warrent leader of rainbows and guides, sometimes i think i must have done something awful in a past life when the 14 year old girls are throwing flour over each other at 9 on a friday night, then i join in and its worth being a bit late to the pub.

People that have the old fashioned view of guides doing kniting and boring stuff have us so wrong, I've been to Canada and Switzerland with the Guides and we are taking them to Mexico next summer, we do sing the silly old songs though, they are nice with mashmellows at a campfire, and we do still camp under canvas, i love that smell, but we also have been white water rafting and bowling and stuff, we have fun anyway!!!

Reply 34

Oh my mum made me do this! I was there for a week, but it got so embarrasing, so being a lateral thinker I joined something similar but cooler, St John Ambulance :p:

Reply 35

I'm a GuidingUK young leader

Excellent. I will try to set up a society, watch this space!!

[edit] After reading the FAQ on setting up a society, I have to start a thread in the 'Ask A Mod' section, now we may actually see our society lift off the ground. Hooray!

Reply 37

Ok, I have submitted a form for our society, this thread may move to the Socs board at any time, be prepared!
