It's subjective: different people have different pain thresholds. It's going to hurt more over the less fleshy parts. But if you really want one it shouldn't be an issue.

Apparently it hurts more on your lower back than it is on your inner hip.
Think long and hard about it. Getting a tattoo is like wearing the same clothes for the rest of your life! Lower back is apparently horribly painful, although you can get numbing cream. I have one on my ankle and one on my shoulder, and the ankle one was 100 times more painful and bloody!

Also, lower back tattoos are known as 'slag tags'. Not that you should give a **** what people think, but it might be something to consider. Hip might be a bit more discrete.

i got one on my hip on saturday n im like the biggest wuss ever, i squeem at the stupidest fings it didnt hurt at all, it jst feels like a hot scratchin but its bareable, n if its a gud tatooist its normally over pretty quick n if its small even better, its worth it
I have one on my hip and it didn't really hurt  Just a scratching, hurt a bit when it went over the bone area but apart from that it was fine
Don't get it done! When you're 70 and its all stretched and wrinkly you'll regret it!
does the pain not depend on the sensitivity of the skin area...

but to be honest none of your body will look too hot at 70, so who cares!
I have a tattoo on my lower back

thats the picture there ^^^

it took three hours and was extremely painful... to be specific as i can.. it felt like someone was sticking a needle in me and just twisting it around and around my spine

BUT it was SOOOOOOO worth it! like cmon.. three hours... and i love it still and will love it for ever. People tell me ew you're gonna have a tramp stamp and its gonna look nasty when you're 80 but i dont really care. I love it and thats all that counts

where there is more bone it will hurt more, however it still depends on your ability to deal with the pain! if you want a tattoo really bad u will deal with it, and even at that i dont believe its that sore but then again im a different person

it sorta feels like a scratching sensation that begins to burn..
i had a half sleeve done.. still to be finished and trust me after 5 hours of hearing that buzzing i was ready to kill someone but the only bit that hurt was near my elbow... bony areas are where you 'feel' it more.

If its a small design i wouldnt worry, it will be over fairly quickly. The outline isn't too bad but for shading and colour, especially large areas there can be as many as 6 or 7 needles at once... that hurts lol

Hmm, the arm shouldn't be tooo bad in terms of pain. I have one just above my wrist and that wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. If you're in doubt about designs, pay a visit to your local tattoo studio, look at the portfolios and you never know, they might give you some ideas

The thing with tattoos is every person thinks differently about them: I told my friend that I'd like tattoos on my feet/ankles - he told me that feet are for walking (as if I needed telling, lmao) Needless to say, I got them done today, and it was so worth it. Muaha! But yeah, sod your mates, they're not the ones that have to live with it, you are, so if you want to do it, then just do it
Very cool tattoo, nicer colours than most like this
