Yeah, the flats have fridges and you get a shelf each or so...

not allowed mini fridges at broadgate but then again you're not allowed a lot of things that we all have. nobody ever checks so I wouldn't worry about it - bring what u like

does anyone already at notts have a mini fridge? i have a fat sole so v tempted to get one as i might just starve at uni lol
i had one, and a couple of my mates had one... they seriously dont care, if you want one get it.

I would assume that you are not allowed to bring your own fridge. Main reason being that they are worried about having to dispose of old refrigeration appliances when the students have left. So it's simple for them to provide a working fridge and not have to worry about it.

i think it has more to do with the power they use up

It's all about the electricity costs. Nottingham Hospitality are greedy bastards and you will learn that they'll do anything to get more money off students. They just haven't had the idea yet to charge extra to let people bring fridges.
I didn't have one personally, but one of my friends downstairs did. To be honest, it didn't actually contain food - it was there to keep the beers cold and so they didn't get stolen from the kitchen

are you allowed mini-fridges at st. peter's court or broadgate? also may seem like a stupid question but where do you keep all your food?! thanks

No. I wouldnt bother if your staying at SPC. In the new block they have 2 massive fridge/freezers for 6 people! Trust me thats more than enough space.

If you in the slightly older block they only have 1. So then i would suggest you might take one up..but only if you really feel you need it.

99% of people manage perfectly well without the need.

If you have any more questions feel free to PM me.

Cya in September!

A mini fridge may not always be practical, alot of the halls how power limits, i *think* its 1400Watts in rooms, bringing a PC,big speakers,tv etc etc you probably couldnt have a mini fridge running all the time anyway.

I do have fridge worries though, atm i live on my own and have a big fridge to myself, yet its always full i dont know how id cope with 1 shelf!

I don't know how the halls could manage that. Plus you don't have to have everything plugged in at once. If you do plug in multiple appliances, always use a separately fused extension lead, not those silly multiple socket plug blocks.

13 amp fused extension sockets will give you 3120 watts maximum before you exceed the fuse rating. Obviously I don't recommend trying to test this, it's only as a guide.

The only things which will come close to busting the wattage limit are household irons, kettles, electric heaters ... basicaally anything which gets hot... running a laptop, stereo, fridge etc all off the same wall wont even come close to busting the limit. And no cold does not draw as much power as hot, look up how a fridge works.

You mentioned electric heaters being a bit much. I was considering bringing one because it'll be a little colder up there in Notts. Do the rooms or halls ever get a little chillier than you'd like?

I really wont need one.

Although i really guess it depends what hall your in.

I know at SPC the hall is too hot if anything!
Don't bother with one, unless you get REALLY cold at night! Most rooms have thier own radiators/heaters and if you do get super cold just take lots of warm bedding!
