Firstly, do any other females in your family suffer from premature balding or hair loss? Often these things are hereditary, and unfortunately you could well inherit it too if that is the case.

In April I started to lose my hair (I was only 14 at the time), but balding doesn't run in my family, so I had to rule that out. I visited my doctor and asked other people, and the possible reasons which were suggested were:

1) Stress- as I had exams and work experience at the time. My doctor said if it was caused by stress, the only thing that could be done was to try to stay calm as much as possible, and it should rectify itself in time.

2) Thyroid problems- I had to get a blood test, as hyperthyroidism is a common cause of hair loss. This came back negative however

3) Diet- sometimes if you don't receive enough nutrients in your diet, it's possible that your hair can fall out. I started eating vitamins, but I'm not sure what it did

4) Illness- I caught the flu for the very first time when it went around in March. Apparently sometimes illness can cause hair to fall out.

I tried lots of things, and I asked my doctor for help too, although he couldn't do a great deal. The best thing to do is visit your doctor, and they might be able to make you an appointment with the specialist. Luckily it's stopped falling out for now, but I don't know if it will start again.

I do hope you feel better about it soon and find a solution- I know how terrible it felt at the time. Good luck!
