Gcse ICT Board set Assignment

Introduction
This assignment is based on upgrading image and efficiency of The Plant
House Garden Centre owned by Jo, who requires my assistants. The centre produces plants, shrubs and trees and retails them along with garden equipment and pond supplies. Staffs advise potential customers on choosing and caring for their plant. Jo competes with a larger garden centre a few miles away; attracting new customers is essential.
I will take the role of Sandy, Jo's friend, who is aware of the benefits he will receive from my ICT skills.
Identification of the tasks
This Board Set Assignment booklet contains five tasks to be completed. I will give a brief summary of what is involved in each task.
Identification of task 1-Information leaflets
I identified the first task and gave it the name- Information leaflets
As a need to attract customers, Jo has an idea of supplying plant information leaflets available to the public; containing information not yet provided for in store. Pictures, text and a logo will all be included. Location, contact phone number and opening times will all be well laid out, with the leaflet having great use of colour and imagery. All this will be set on two sheets of A4 paper.
Desired outcomes and Performance Criteria
1. It must contain information on plant care.
2. Finished results must be produced in a leaflet.
3. The name, address and telephone must be in the leaflet.
4. The heading will be "How to care for your century plant"
5. A logo must also be included
6. Opening times in summer and winter is essential to include
7. Leaflet will be produced on A4
8. Information will be well laid out on both sides.
9. Details of the plants and its photo will be on one side of the leaflet.
10.The heading must be big
11. The leaflet will be colourful.
Testing
No testing is required.
Information to be output
· I must output plant care instructions.
· I must output plant pictures v I must output the garden centre's name.;
· I must output the garden centres address v I must output the garden centres phone number.
· I must output the garden centre's logo
· I must output the garden centre's opening time information. bb.
· I must output the garden centres photograph.
The data needed to produce the output
· I must output plant care instructions, taken from the school network in the text file.
· I must output plant pictures, which I will find in the school network under graphics file (all in jpg and if format.) v I must output the garden centre's name, which is shown in the booklet.
· I must output the garden centre's address available in booklet.
· I must output the garden centres phone number available in my booklet. v I must output the garden centre's logo in the school network under graphics file (all in jpg and gif format.)
· I must output the garden centre's opening time information, available in the school network under text file. v I must output the garden centre's photograph, which I will find in the school network in the graphics file.
Identification of task two-Plant labels
Task two is the production of plant labels; Jo believes this will be a convenient method in solving plant-labelling problems. Examples of problems encounter include labels being dug into the soil, then getting knocked out. This can result in pots having incorrect labels. I will produce a system for making stick on labels. Information of its eventual height, width, flowering period and a clear statement of the price must be included. Although the labels will be 5cm high by 9cm wide, company name and logo still must be inserted. Again colour and imagery is important.
Desired outcomes and Performance Criteria
· All plants we sell must be labelled.
· The Latin name of the plant
· The plants eventual height and width must be shown, along with its flowering period. 4. There must be a clear statement of the price.
· Labels must include the Garden Centre name on
· I must have the company logo on the front.
· The measurements of the labels must be approximate 5cm high and 9cm wide.
· I will need to print out labels for all the plants flowering in a particular period.
· Plant labels must have a colourful border.
Testing
Testing is required in this section.
Information to be output
· I must output the Latin name of the plant.
· I must output the plants eventual height and width
· I must output the garden centres name.:
· I must output the garden centres logo.
· I must output the plants flowering period.
· I must output a colourful border.
The data needed to produce the output
· I must output the Latin name of the plant, found in the school network, plant data file.
· I must output the plants eventual height and width, found in the school network, plant data file.
· I must output a clear price statement, which I will find in the school network under, plant data file..
· I must output the garden centres name, which is provided in the booklet.
· I must output the garden centres logo, which I will find in the schools logo, in the graphics file.
· I must output the plants flowering period, found in the school network, under plant data file.
· I must output a colourful border, which I will find in the features of my chosen software.
Identification of task three-Pond Kits
For this task I will create a model what can calculate the final cost of a pond kit. The model must be able to show individual prices of the pond liner, underliner, underwater plants (5 plants to every square metre), decorative plants (1 plant pack every meter around pond), water lilies and a fountain. The spreadsheet must be designed to answer frequent questions asked by customers such as " I have a budget limit of £150, what is the greatest pond size available to me under theses circumstances?" Calculations: - To calculate the pond liner size, I will use these methods Length of liner= (2.5 * depth) + length of pond Width of liner=(2.5 * depth) + width of pond Size of pond liner= length of pond liner * width of pond liner. Calculation of the underliner is identical to the above
Number of decorative plant packs =
(Length of pondliner + width of pond liner) * 2
Under water plants ff!
Number of bunches= length of liner * width of liner * 5
Here is a set of manual calculations; I can use to test my system
Mr Smith wants a pond measuring 2m * 1.5 and 1m deep. Cost will be:
Liner length=2.5*1m+2m =4.5m
Liner width=2.5*1m+1.5m. =4m
Liner size=4.5m*4m =18m
Cost of pond liner=£4.40*18 =£79.20.
Cost of underliner=90p*18 =£16.20
Underwater plant bunches=5*18*50p =£45.00
Decorative plant packs=(4.5+4) * 2 * £3.50 =£59.50
Water lily =£8.50
Fountain s. =£55.00
Total Cost. =£263.40
I will work out a formula making certain cells round to the nearest whole number.
Part of this task is using my system to work out a pond problem with the budget of £300 pounds with Mr Patel. This will be covered later on.
Desired outcomes and Performance Criteria
· Computer must calculate changes in best fit for pond.
· Must be simple to change length, width and depth of pond when asked to.
· I must measure to the nearest centimetre.
· The pond liner will be measured at £4.40 a square metre.
· Under liner must be used to prevent damage; this will cost 90p a square metre.
· Five bunches of underwater plants are allowed to every square metre of the pond.
· I must only count whole bunches; therefore I will round up to the nearest bunch of plants.
· Decorative plants will calculate to one plant pack for every metre around the edge of the pond liner, this must be rounded up. 9. Customers name must be on the sheet provided to them.
· It is important this model fits on one side of A4.
Testing
Testing is required in this section. See test plan in design.
Identification of task four-Website
Jo's Garden Centre is improving, although, a competitive local store has a successful running website, Jo believes the creation of his own will persuade customers to purchase their items here.
I will design a homepage along with four other pages; a consistent layout and style will be required throughout all pages. I will divide this site into separate sections one example is list of bedding plants and rockery plants, this should fit neatly on to one a4 piece. It is crucial that it includes lists of prices and Latin names written in Italics.
Lists must not interfere in the attractive design planned, although numerous amounts of pictures will cause unprogressive delaying of the required page:
Colour, hyperlinks and clipart are all solutions.
The homepage will contain the garden centre name, address and contact number. I will insure plants and prices will be in incorrect places.
Desired outcome and performance criteria
· Homepage is required to input name and picture of Garden Centre.
· Emphasise importance that the plants we grow are from seeds or cuttings.
· I must include hyperlinks to the rest of my site.
· Separate pages will be needed for trees and shrubs, herbaceous perennials and garden supplies. Bedding plants and rockery plants will also need one page.
· The garden supplies page will consist of Latin names, prices and an item list.
· Each separate page must be noticeably attractive.
· The site will be divided into separate sections for different products.
