well the uni im going to go to is one of these two and i just want to wiegh up the pros and cons of both uni's before making my final decision.

thanks in advance for your help

Nottingham has a beautiful campus, has major links to places including birmingham and is considered one of the top universities in the country, along side *those* universities, whereas sheffield is a city university and hasn;t got such a good reputation... though am not visiting till the 12th so don't know what the campus is like...

What course are you doing?

I'm having this problem too!

Same for me, Sheffield is my firm and Notts is my insurance, so obviously i prefer what ive seen of Sheffield.

Im doing economics. the thing is i didnt quite like the idea of a campus university but i went to see nottingham and it was amazing so now im worried about going to sheffield, although it looks more likely because i need AAA to get into nottingham and ive not really worked very hard for these exams.

I much prefrered Sheffield to Nottingham, the Nottingham campus is quite far from the city centre wheras Sheffiled is in the centre in a really nice part of the cuty. Sheffield seemed friendlier and arguably has much better nightlife. Plus you can get to Manchester and Leeds really easily. Also Sheffield is cheaper and statistcally safer. ALso Sheffield still has a really good reputation and is part of the Russell Group.

I'm sure you'll be fine

And though nottingham is not considered safe, its campuses (or should that be campii) are apparently one of the safest in the UK

can't wait till wednesday for sheffield though! i've never been to keen on city universities... :s-smilie: but sheffield sounds good!

I'm going fo biology, so only need an ABB for notts and BBB for sheffield... woot! lol

Ooh. I might be doing zoology. Might see you there sometime (but not Wednesday, because I've been already and it's quite far). I preferred campus universities but really fell in love with Sheffield.
City wise, Sheffield is SO much nicer. I live in Notts so I've been there more often but it just doesn't compare to Sheffield, Sheff is so much nicer, cleaner, you feel safer, it has some really pretty places in the city centre whereas Notts is just drab.

sheffield has got a good rep.. even though nottinghams reputation is better, sheffield is still a good university which is respected by employers!

I'd say the reputation difference between Sheffield and Nottingham as whole universities is negliable.

I visited both when I applied for engineering, I couldn't really choose between them, but I went to Sheffield on the strength of the department.

I've been to visit friends at Notts and I'm very glad I didn't go there, Sheffield is a great city. Althought the Notts campus is very nice, the city sucks.

didn't say it hadn't got a good one, just that it wasn't as good as notts, but only in some areas! sorry bout that!

1 week to go until sheffield... yay!

have never been to either city... so i have no idea what they are like!
Nottingham's busy and expensive.

if I was loaded I would probably prefer bath, but as a student sheffield is much better.

As a Nottingham-dweller myself I would say that Sheffield has a much nicer atmosphere. Despite that it is actually bigger than Nottingham, everything feels much more compact... though personally I would pick up Nottingham's campus and dump it in Sheffield....best of both worlds!
i'm not loaded... ah well... meh.

sheffield in 2 days!!!!

do you guys reccomend taking a campus tour?
