Most French verbs take avoir. We need to know this in order to conjugate the past tense as it requires the auxillary. If you need me to explain this tense just ask.

However there are some être verbs.
Remember them as such (DR & MRS VANDERTRAMP)

Devenir
Revenir
&
Monter
Rester
Sortir

Venir
Aller
Naître
Descendre
Entrer
Rentrer
Tomber
Retourner
Arriver
Mourir
Partir

These words with prefixes are also être e.g. Revenir
