A big con for me is the ratio.

You don't really notice it at all on nights out
It's a fantastic university. Excellent facilities, excellent nightlife, beautiful campus (well, most of it is pretty), high in the league tables, high standards of accommodation, unrivalled sporting achievements, an adequate town centre and great traditions. The only downside is that you're probably not going to find a girlfriend here.

(Because I'm a picky bastard, I'd like to point out that it's called Loughborough University, not University of Loughborough.)

Why?

I know countless men who want a girlfriend but just can't find one because a lot of girls in Loughborough are either a) A bit of a slut, or b) Already taken. It's the ratio!

For what reasons in particular? Because I would like to take that as a positive, and I'm hoping to be taken myself by then...

It's just rare to find girls that are willing to be in a relationship from what I see. I'm in my third year and only know one guy that's in a long-term, stable relationship with someone they met at Loughborough and I know countless men looking for a relationship. A lot of girls here only do drunken one-night stand things.

I have to disagree with the guy above, no reason for you to not find a girlfriend here...

Oh absolutely, you might be the nicest guy in the world and get a girlfriend, but from seeing my own friends' experiences, it's quite rare.

62:38 male:female ratio. One of the highest in the country. Whether that's an issue is really up to the individual.

Agree about the campus and the facilities, they are excellent.

Loughborough, as towns go, is fine but is obviously not a city. That said it's an easy commute into Leicester.

If you like general chart stuff or electronic type music, excellent. If you don't, it's awful.
(This is my opinion as a rock, metal and indie lover, so feel free to disregard it!)

Not really sure if your still looking for answers to this as the thread is fairly old but i'll still post my opinion for anyone who comes across this.

Firstly, been at Loughborough for 4 months now and I have to be honest not completely fallen in love with it like most freshers to do (mainly due to accommodation problems)

Pros:

Saying "Loughborough" never fails to impress friend's or family, and hopefully future employee's - well established good reputation.

Sporting Facilities best in Europe for almost all sports... as a "good" athlete before coming to Loughborough I now have access to all the GB training facilities and coaches. - However please note YOU DO NOT need to be good at sport to come to Loughborough. It's ANOTHER reason to come not THE reason to come.

Con's:

The boy to girl ratio... well it is what it is according to which rumours you believe vary's from 55:45 to 70:30 - personally I would say more often than not it feels 65:35 but the "Lad" culture is strong.

Coming from London Loughborough can seem... well... a bit boring to me. Except for the Union for club nights once you've walked around the campus one (which can be pretty) and gone into town which is basically a high street there's not much else to do. However I do get the feeling this seems more of a problem to me than others coming from London and being use "10 mins on the tube to anywhere"

I would consider them the main pro's and con's... let me know if you have any questions should be able to help.

is the nightlife really that bad? I live in east london and even though i usually end up going out in romford (cheap drinks, dont judge me  ) it is lively and i can have a decent night out
Unis good but it's a ex market town with no real industry left , good if you go drinking in the surrounding villages and enough to do if you have the inclination to look. Its surrounding countryside is unspoilt and like any part of England is crap when its raining but amazing when its sunny.
But 9 k a year ? do what I did . I got crap jobs, traveled as much as I could and got to see the world, then got a trade and now I earn money and live happily, so don't do something you dont care about
if you have to
use it to do what you love.... Surf, travel, any form of art, whatever floats your boat

saying that you might actually want to go to uni, you could do alot worse than Loughborough , stoke on Trent isnt too pretty

Can you really assume that to be the case for everyone? There might be people who are more meticulous or diligent on how they use their resources to get to where they think they love. Not only that, but they might learn somethin' they otherwise wouldn't, you might of been unlucky, but how can you make such an assertion based upon one experience.

It's like sayin' if one succeeds by showing no emotion and just working like machine in his field, then anyone else with the same attitude could do the same in their field.

Hi, Can you please tell me how's the London campus? Is the College fun and do we have a lot of social activities? How's the College in terms of academics.
